Household Accounting Manifesto
  1. Households Are the True Going Concern.  Businesses rise and fall. Careers pivot. Markets change. But the household persists — day after day, year after year, generation after generation. Every paycheck, every profit, every sale, every failure eventually flows into the household ledger. It is the ultimate cumulative repository of all business outcomes.
  2. The Household Has the Longest Life Cycle.  A person may start, own, or close several businesses over a lifetime. But most of us have only one household. That household will long outlive us, becoming the foundation of inheritance, estate, and legacy. Its life cycle is measured not in years or quarters, but in decades and generations.
  3. Households Deserve Rigor.  If businesses justify careful books to survive competition and satisfy regulators, then households — with longer horizons and deeper responsibilities — deserve as much rigor, if not more. Robust household accounting brings continuity, clarity, and credibility across time.
  4. Memory Is Capital.  Numbers are not just balances. They are stories: of choices made, risks taken, investments endured, sacrifices remembered. A household ledger is a memory palace. Without it, families lose track of what mattered. With it, they preserve economic DNA that can be inherited as wisdom, not just wealth.
  5. Accountability to the Next Generation.  Businesses face audits by regulators. Households face audits by children, heirs, and history itself. The rigor you bring to your household books is a testimony of stewardship — to those who depend on you now, and to those who will inherit what you leave behind.

 Hi, thanks for visiting the site.  My name is Kris Freeberg.  I'm a Microeconomist.   My mission is to help you and yours plan and achieve your life's savings.  Since 1996, this web site has grown to more than ninety pages sharing exactly how we do that.  I hope you'll explore it and contact me.
